Hello there, beautiful souls! It's a pleasure to meet you.
I am James Lamar, a certified sound bath facilitator and music recording artist located in Central Pennsylvania. I was certified in sound therapy during the summer of 2019 by Ana Netanel of Shakti Sound Bath in Los Angeles, California. Since receiving my certification, I've shared these sacred sound frequencies in various spaces around Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh & Central Pennsylvania. Let's start at the beginning of my journey, so you can get to know me.
I was born in Shamokin, a small town in Central Pennsylvania, a product of a talented musician (my father) and a music enthusiast (my mother). My grandparents raised me and quickly recognized my musical abilities; I started singing in nursing homes by the age of 4. I continued to pursue music in school, which led me to compete & sing in the All Eastern Chorus. I attended Temple University in Philadelphia where I studied Vocal Jazz & Media Studies. While in Philly, I pursued a music career & released two singles, "Fragile Heart" & "Don't Give Up on Love" ft. Bailee. By 2015, I made the move to Los Angeles hoping to 'make it big'.
While in Los Angeles, I learned first-hand about the horrors of the entertainment industry, and I was simultaneously beginning my own meditation & spiritual practice. It was my dream of stardom that was the catalyst to my spiritual awakening. I had the wonderful opportunity to work on shows like Wild N Out, Ridiculousness, Kirby Buckets, and more. The work didn't feel fulfilling to my soul, nor did it feel like my 'purpose' in life. During this time, I was writing lots of music with the intention of releasing positive messages into people's ears. A music colleague & friend introduced me to sound baths, where my passion for uplifting music & meditation could be combined. "Music can help heal people? Count me in."
It was then that I attended some local sound baths & found Shakti Sound Bath's training & certification class. Directly after my certification, I played in Ana Netanel’s multiple healer sound baths in Brentwood & at The WisDome (where celebrities Muni Long & Tori Spelling were sighted). I teamed up with another one of Ana's students, Essie Marie of The Angelic Ones, to host monthly sound baths at the late Agora Temple on Melrose Ave. Essie & I partnered again with local activist Tyson Szuki, The Active Advocate, to host a free breathwork & sound bath event for black justice at Bruce’s Beach, a previously black-owned beach. I was able to play alongside more of Ana's students, Essie Marie & Breanna Blair, during the 2019 Yoga Expo held in Pasadena, CA. As a way of practicing, I frequently played my singing bowls at the local parks and beaches around Los Angeles during my spare time. On February 2, 2021, I released my debut meditation single, "Meditative Soundscape: Crystal Singing Bowls", available to purchase & stream everywhere. Before leaving Los Angeles, I hosted weekly donation-based sound baths at Runyon Canyon Park in Hollywood until I eventually returned to Pennsylvania to bring these frequencies back to my roots.
Since being back in PA, I have traveled across the state offering both private and public sound baths. I have facilitated sessions at Bloomsburg University, Susquehanna University, and for the local Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society. I have also hosted monthly sound baths at the late Salamander Yoga Studio in Milton, PA, weekly sessions at Space & Grace Yoga & Wellness in Philadelphia, and a few sessions at his previous employer, Vibrant Sunshine Juicery & Cafe. Currently, I am offering monthly sound baths at various venues in Pennsylvania and am available for hire. My intention is to create space for humans of all walks of life to experience safety, stillness, deep relaxation, connection with the breath, body, mind, & Spirit, and an overall sense of wellness. Book your sound bath session with me today.
With Infinite Love & Gratitude,
James Lamar ♡
